Getting Around Nevis
Getting around Nevis is pretty simple. There’s not much traffic, no bridges or tunnels, not even a single traffic light. There is a main road that takes you around the entire island with slight diversions along the way to explore sites, attractions and the local villages. There are a few car rental agencies that have jeeps, sedans and mini vans available for your selection. Most rental agencies arrange pickup and drop off at the airports, hotels and ferry terminal if you are arriving via St. Kitts.
To be allowed to drive in Nevis, one must have a valid driver’s license and obtain a special driver’s permit from any of the island police stations. This is necessary even if you have an international driver’s license. The permit costs $62.50XCD (US $24) and expires in 90 days. Most rental agencies can also issue this permit on site at time of pickup.

It is important to remember that during the Culturama Festival (late July to early August) and during the Christmas season, there is a higher demand for rental vehicles. So it is recommended that you reserve your car rental early.
